John Week 3

Original weight: 320
Weight when he got home after surgery: 313

Last week's weight: 300
Today's weight: 297

Weight loss this week: 3
Total weight loss: 23

On a brighter note, John is doing very well. He only has one more week of liquid diet and then he gets to start on pureed foods. We have kinda cheated by introducing high protein oatmeal and mashed potatoes. He drinks 2 shakes a day and for his third meal he eats oatmeal or last night he chose mashed potatoes. He seems to be tolerating this change nicely. This was his first week back to work and he did very well with drinking his shakes and keeping his energy up. It looks like he is well on his way to a healthy weight loss journey.

Week 53

Original weight: 295
Weight when I got home after surgery: 283

Last week's weight: 169
Today's weight: 171

Weight loss this week: gain 2
Total weight loss: 124

Seriously this is getting beyond frustrating. I work very hard 4 days a week to get in shape. I go to boot camp 3 nights a week and I take a high-impact kickboxing class 1 morning a week. I have never been stronger or faster in all of my adult life and still I gain weight. I found this blog about a woman who hit a plateau after weight loss surgery. She said she cut out sugar and the pounds started coming off again. I think I am going to try this since I know the problem isn't with my activity level it must be with my diet. Since Wednesday, I have already cut out my favorite addiction...Starbucks. I think with that alone I should be back on track but I am also going to reintroduce protein shakes back into my meal planning. I also intend on cutting out simple carbs and limiting my complex carbs like breads and pastas. I hope to have better results next week.

John Week 2

Original weight: 320
Weight when he got home after surgery: 313

Today's weight: 300
Total weight loss: 20

John's recovery is going so well. His energy level is back to normal and his incisions are almost completely healed. He went to the doctor Tuesday and got his drain tube removed so he is able to be more comfortable. When he was at the doctor, he found out he has 3 more weeks of protein shakes before he can transition into pureed foods. It seems that what he misses most about food is the crunch. He is not hungry but he wishes he could eat his meals rather than drink them. It seems that it takes him all day to drink 24 oz of protein. Just as he finishes one drink, it is time to start another. This liquid phase is crucial to his recovery and he is taking it all in stride. In any event, it is so great to see how much he has improved in such a short time.

Week 52...1 YEAR!!!

Original weight: 295
Weight when I got home after surgery: 283

Last week's weight: 169
Today's weight: 169

Waist: 1"
Hips: 1 3/4"
Thighs: 0"
Calves: 0"

Today is the 1 year anniversary of my surgery. It has been the best year of my life as far as my health goes. I have never felt stronger or healthier in all of my adult life. I have gone from a size 26 to a size 12 and I am still dropping sizes. I have gone from being out of breath 1/2 way up the stairs to doing daily workouts with full energy. I am able sit on the floor comfortably, fit in the middle seat on an airplane with ease, see my feet without bending, be hugged by my husband and have him wrap his arms all the way around me, and I can finally see my collar bone. I am so much happier with my life and I didn't even think that was possible. I am getting closer to reaching my ultimate goal of starting a little family of my own. In addition, now that John has started his weight loss journey, I get to see him transform into a healthier and happier husband. I am so grateful for all the support from all my friends and family as I have traveled along this journey to a smaller me. I still have some more weight to lose but at least the finish line is in view!

John's Stats

Weight when he got home after surgery: 313

Today's weight: 310
Total weight loss: 14

I will document his progress monthly. He is doing so well. He is drinking protein shakes and water as well as eating jello. In 2 weeks he will move to eating pureed foods. He is walking around with ease and has very little pain. His body functions are normal and his energy level is great. His only discomfort is his drain tube which is scheduled to be removed Tuesday. We were both expecting his recovery to be harder based on my surgery but as it turns out, this is the way recovery is supposed to be.
