Pictures...FAIL!!!!

I kept meaning to get John's picture for week 25 and have him take my 19 month photo but it never happened. It has been crazy around here lately and we never got around to taking pictures last week. I promise this will NOT happen again.

I am officially closer to 100 than I am to 200 pounds. I gained some weight while at camp because the meals were carb-heavy and I snacked on junk the entire week. I am stoked to not only have lost the camp weight but also be at a loss for the month. I also lost inches in every area!!!! I can't say it enough...life is GOOD!

The New Me

Last week I went up to resident camp just like I have done every summer for 10 years. I usually go up to camp as a director but this time I was a counselor. I was in a cabin with 10 - 6th grade girls. I was worried that I would not be able to hang all week. As it turns out, those sweet little girls reminded my why I fell in love with camp in the first place. Being a camp counselor was such a rejuvenating experience.

Last year I celebrated that I could ride the horses. This year I am celebrating that I could do EVERYTHING! I climbed the rock wall for the first time EVER! I know that it may not seem like a very big accomplishment but to me it was a defining moment. The coolest part was that it was physically easy. I also conquered the high ropes coarse. Last year I tried to climb the cargo net to the top of a very large tree and in the end I was only able to make it up 3 feet. This year I climbed that net and made it to the top. I also climbed a rope ladder to a tiny platform at the top of a very high tree. It was called the leap of faith because once I got to the top, I had to jump and grab a trapeze swing. I did it and I held myself up there for a very long time. I am constantly amazed at how strong I am. This past week was so good for me to put into practice the new, healthier me.

75 pounds in 6 months! John is amazing in every way. I am so proud of his commitment to healthy living. I was away all week and he not only went to the gym he hiked a trail to the beach. It would have been so easy for him to come home and unwind in peace but he chose to stay active. There is good stuff happening at the Carroll household!

This was an outstanding week for John. He is now closer to 200 then he is to 300! He went to the gym twice this week and really paid attention to what he ate. He said his weight loss is because he was due for a good week. I know that it was his activity and food choices that lead to a successful week. I am so proud of this man of mine!!!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!!!!! I did it, I did it! I made it to my 150 pound weight goal. My grandma said this would be the week that I hit 150 and she was right. This is a major accomplishment and a serious milestone. I am so stoked and proud all at the same time. This is the number that I set for myself way back when I weighed nearly 300 pounds. This is the number the doctor gave me to start trying for a baby. This is the number that I have worked so hard to get to. YAY for hard work and commitment. My next and ultimate weight goal is 130. From this point on, I will only be updating my portion of weight loss on a monthly basis. Since my weight loss has slowed to a crawl, monthly updates make the most sense. I will still be tracking John's journey weekly. I plan on staying focused and dedicated to my weight loss. I will continue to monitor what I eat and go all out with my Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai Kickboxing and Jujitsu workouts. Today is a day to remember. Thank you to everyone who has followed me on my journey, celebrated my victories, encouraged me when I struggled and cheered me on as I battled my biggest challenge, my weight.

John has been under a great deal of stress at work these last few weeks. This week was particularly stressful. With all of the craziness at work he missed his workouts and didn't exactly eat like a health nut which explains the numbers this week. Everything is better now and I expect this week to deliver better results.

I am super stoked about losing two weeks in a row. I continue to be focused on my goals and am slowly getting closer to achieving them. I absolutely love Muay Thai kickboxing and am getting better at jujitsu every week. These daily workouts keep me motivated to be my best. I have a heart-rate monitor that I wear to every workout. The monitor shows how hard I am working my heart and how many calories I burn. I average between 450 and 600 an hour. This is a significant amount since I eat between 500 and 800 calories a day. I am excited about my progress!

Today John and I were clearing out the closet of all our "fat" cloths. As we were rummaging through old stuff we found my high school cheer uniform. I tried it on and to my surprise it fit. I couldn't believe it fit. I almost hyperventilated while doing my celebration dance. This is a HUGE moment and I am so excited to share it. In my joyful state of excitement, I jumped in the car fully dressed in my uniform and barged into my parents house. I came in doing a cheer and as they laughed, they also congratulated me. My dad and brother think the uniform is too big but I think it is perfect. I am the same size I was when I was a teenager. Go Los Amigos High School class of '96!!!!

I went to the river this weekend with my family and ate like it was going out of style. I am just happy I didn't put on any weight. I am hoping that since this weekend was bad, my body will shed pounds this week once I get back on track.

Goal achieved!!!!

One of my goals was to get into single digit pants and today that goal was achieved! I bought a pair of size 9 jeans this weekend thinking that if they don't fit now, they will soon. Today I put them on and they not only fit, they are a little big around the waist. My challenge now will be to get my thighs tone enough to get down to a 7. My waist is shrinking faster than my legs but I am so super excited to be out of double digit clothes. Also, both my mom and best friend recently commented on the shape of my butt. I have always had a flat but wide butt and now because of all the squats and lunges I do it is starting to narrow out and round up. I love that all my hard work is paying off. John may be right about my exercise addiction but it is one that is helping to shape me into the woman that I always knew I could be. Days like this remind me of how far I have come and make me proud of who I am!

60 whooping pounds...hooray for John! His fat is melting away so quickly and we are both very excited. Pretty soon he will be needing a new wardrobe and that makes me happy since I now have my very own live Ken doll.

I'll take it! One pound is awesome and that leaves me with only 8 more to go to be at my first weight target. This week was a great workout week. I know I've said it before but I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my new martial arts and kickboxing workouts. I always leave soaking wet and full of energy (even more than usual). The only bummer is I injured my left middle finger knuckle during one of my workouts. I planned on wrapping it up and pushing on with my regular routine but John was adamant that I take some time to let it heal. I promised I would not punch again until Monday but the lull in exercise is killing me. I hope my hand is better by Monday because I plan on going full force. I missed boot camp Thursday night so I could go get my hand checked out which means that next boot camp session I will still be able to make up my time. This is a good thing since it is hard for me to walk away from that type of workout and the friendships I have made there. I have one week off from school before summer classes start so I plan on getting as many workout sessions in as possible before I have to cut back for school. John thinks I am addicted to working out but I think it is just that I am focused on my goals. If I want to be a ninja, I gotta put in the training time!

Woo Hoo!!! 2 days at the gym + 3 pounds lost in 1 week + 35% of excess weight gone + 58 total pounds thinner = 1 healthy, good looking man. I am so excited to see John shrink right before my eyes. He is eating healthy and working out twice a week. Our future looks very bright and our present life is pretty darn awesome!

Even though this month was a slow weight loss in pounds it was a good one for inches lost. I am still losing inches every month so I must be doing something right. I thouroughly enjoyed my new martial arts and kick boxing training this week. I have been sore all week long from the various workouts and I love it. I am sad that next week will be my last at boot camp but I am stoked to be able to put in more effort with martial arts. I always leave drenched in sweat and feeling powerful. Good things are happening and I am excited to improve on my tone, strength and endurance!

Weight when he got home after surgery: 313

Last week's weight: 265
Today's weight: 265

Weight loss this week: 0
Total weight loss: 55

John had a feeling this would happen since last week he lost 5 pounds and the scale stayed steady all week. Based on past trends, he will be down next week. I think he looks thinner than last week and his clothes support my hypothesis. Work has been crazy for him but he still managed to make it to the gym 1 day this week. Next week he plans on hitting the gym twice.

I am out of the 60's and that makes me happy. I just have 9 pounds to go. Today I start a new workout program. I am going to start "ninja" training. I have always wanted to be a bad ass ninja and I hope that time is near. It is a martial arts academy where I can learn various forms of martial arts. The rumor is that this is a very challenging, fat burning program that will teach me technique and discipline. I am super excited to do this because even if I never move to Japan to be a samurai warrior, I will at least have the skills that it takes. Most importantly, I am hoping that this change in physical activity will help me lose those last pounds I need to get to my weight goal.

Monthly Measurements (inches lost since last month):
Chest: 1 1/2"
Arms: 1/4"
Waist: 1 1/2"
Hips: 1/2"
Thighs: 2 1/2"

Hooray for John!!!! 5 pounds down in one week and inches lost in every measurement. This is an incredible weight loss and it shows in his face and body. His "tight" clothes are fitting better and the clothes he wore before surgery are starting to get too big. He has adjusted well to the changes in diet and food doesn't seem to be an issue for him. In fact, he often forgets to eat during the day when he gets busy at work. His only food addiction is sugar free popsicles. I am so excited to see him transform into a healthier man!

Last week's weight: 160
Today's weight: 160

A 0 pound weight loss is better than a weight gain. It is expected that since last week I lost 3 pounds, I would have a low week this week. Hopefully next week gets me closer to my weight goal.

Today's weight: 270

Weight loss this week: 1
Total weight loss: 50

First 50 pounds are gone and John is looking great. He had a very stressful week at work but he still went to the gym and worked up a sweat. He is eating health food and getting active...what more could a woman want in her man? John may be my biggest supporter but I am his for sure!!!

Total weight loss: 135

WOO HOO! 3 pounds down and only 10 more to go to be at my first goal and baby-making weight. This week was awesome. Even though boot camp was not in session this week, we had a make-up night on Monday where I kicked my own butt. Tuesday morning I did my regular kickboxing class but I went all out and was drenched in sweat when I got home. Wednesday and Thursday I took kickboxing classes at the gym to keep my endurance up for the mud-run on Saturday. My goal was to finish the 5K mud-run in under 40 minutes. I didn't know what to expect for the race but I just didn't want to be the last to finish. As it turns out, I came in 45th place which sounds high but there were over 300 runners. Also my time was 39:19. I ran through dirt, climbed walls, crawled through mud puddles, climbed over tire tubes and leaped over foam squares. In the end, I was muddy and wet but I was not dead and I finished with both my goals met. It is amazing how far I have come from when I started this journey. John and my mom were there cheering me on and it felt good to be proud of what I did. John said I kicked ass and I love that he is my #1 supporter. My told me she was so proud of me and that she was impressed at how well I did. I am one lucky lady for sure!

I don't just go around town in a tutu (even though I really would like to). I participated in a physical competition on Saturday in Tustin. My teammate and I wanted to show our unity and spirit by wearing tutus. We were the "Terrible Tutus". It was called the Code Pink Amazing Race. The boot camp that I go to hosted a food drive for a local food bank by organizing this competition. The entrance fee was a bag of groceries. The race was about an hour and a half. We were in teams of 2 and had to do physical challenges and answer health questions to get clues that lead us to the finish line. It was so fun and we came in 5th out of 30 teams! My mom was there cheering us on and taking pictures. She said it didn't even look like I was struggling to do the challenges which included running, obstacle courses, push-ups, etc... She was so proud of me and even pointed out how far I have come in just 1 year. It was great to have her there. She was inspired by us and plans on doing the race next year.

Usually I would be so angry about gaining a pound but I am not so mad this week. I am bummed that I gained but I think it might have something to do with the fact that Aunt Flo from the Redlands is visiting this week. Also, with last week's 3 pound loss it makes sense that my body is adjusting. Hopefully next week I will be closer to my goal and I can report a loss.

This was a great week and it seems that I am back on track. This week I did extra cardio by running the Mission Viejo Lake (3 miles) twice in addition to boot camp and kickboxing. I started having 2 protein shakes during the day...1 for breakfast and 1 for lunch and then just eating a normal healthy dinner. I hope these changes continue to help me drop my last few pounds.

AHHHHHH!!! I can't take this gaining non-sense. I know what the reason is but I still hate gaining weight even if it is muscle. Last week was the week I had off from boot camp but this week I started up the next session. We do a lot of weight training in addition to cardio exercises. It never fails, I lose weight during the off time and either stay the same or gain once I start back up. Hopefully my body has adjusted to the workouts and will drop some pounds this coming week.

Celebrate

As I was getting dressed this morning, I felt excited to be wearing shorts. It has been years since I have been comfortable in something other than longs pants. I looked in the mirror and for the first time I thought "I look like a normal person". I know I spend a lot of time on this blog focusing on what I have not accomplished; complaining about how far I still have to go to get to my goal. Today I want to celebrate how far I have come and how great it feels to be "normal". Who knew average could be so great? I recently went to my favorite little guys jog-a-thon at his school. His mom sent me pictures of the event and when I saw myself I realized I am not fat anymore. There is a picture of Max, some of his classmates, a teacher's aide and me walking. This aide is super tiny but the coolest part is that I don't look super huge next to her. Today is a day of celebration as I realize I am making gigantic strides toward my goal of being thin. Having this surgery has given me the life that I have always dreamed about and I am so grateful to be sharing it with the people I love!

John Week 3

Original weight: 320
Weight when he got home after surgery: 313

Last week's weight: 300
Today's weight: 297

Weight loss this week: 3
Total weight loss: 23

On a brighter note, John is doing very well. He only has one more week of liquid diet and then he gets to start on pureed foods. We have kinda cheated by introducing high protein oatmeal and mashed potatoes. He drinks 2 shakes a day and for his third meal he eats oatmeal or last night he chose mashed potatoes. He seems to be tolerating this change nicely. This was his first week back to work and he did very well with drinking his shakes and keeping his energy up. It looks like he is well on his way to a healthy weight loss journey.

Week 53

Original weight: 295
Weight when I got home after surgery: 283

Last week's weight: 169
Today's weight: 171

Weight loss this week: gain 2
Total weight loss: 124

Seriously this is getting beyond frustrating. I work very hard 4 days a week to get in shape. I go to boot camp 3 nights a week and I take a high-impact kickboxing class 1 morning a week. I have never been stronger or faster in all of my adult life and still I gain weight. I found this blog about a woman who hit a plateau after weight loss surgery. She said she cut out sugar and the pounds started coming off again. I think I am going to try this since I know the problem isn't with my activity level it must be with my diet. Since Wednesday, I have already cut out my favorite addiction...Starbucks. I think with that alone I should be back on track but I am also going to reintroduce protein shakes back into my meal planning. I also intend on cutting out simple carbs and limiting my complex carbs like breads and pastas. I hope to have better results next week.
